All geeked out in high school i used to always tape Over Ya Head on WSOU with Pookie Johnson and Trademarq. The station was pretty much all crazy metal music all the time then this 1 hip-hop show. They released a comp with Tame One and some other jerz cats which was pretty hot. Going through old tapes a while ago i found this classic. Its Forbidden Chapters a super group from Jersey, they had all these sub groups, i think they had 17 MC's in it, this is recorded off WSOU on 9/17/00 and ripped by me, they wreck the airwaves with this. The quality is nice its 18 min long, theres a 2nd part on another tape that i cant find at the moment. Also i uploaded one of the members solo joints, the audio is a little crappy on the solo joint but its still fire.

He interviews Geoffrey Canada author of Fist, Stick, Knife Gun which is his story growing up in poverty in NYC its a pretty good read however they dont mention the book in the interview. The Camron interview is funny as shit, anytime he is on the news its golden. Check out the videos. On the intro i noticed a sample they also used on the Lil Wyte cd. I kept playing it and noticed they used the loop again but on the whole song. Check this out though, the UK Group Sharam sampled it for thier #1 UK Hit PATT (Party All The Time). Its basically a techno style dance song laced with samples from the Eddie Murphy version. Pretty good if you like this kind of stuff though, very entertaining. The Sharam mp3 sounds a little scruffy but maybe that is the cool new wave euro way it was intended.

So when i was 16 I saw Lordz of Brooklyn and Cypress Hill at Roslands in New York City. Outside the concert I met this guy "Hesher" and his Street Team, they handed me a few promo cd singles and whatnot, i think this was late 1999. Then in 2000 his album was released on Warner Brothers Records, I found this in a book of old cd's i had. Its kind of a cheesy rap/rock mix it has a Len/Rehab style sound to it. It also features Biz Markie and Everlast. I guess he was just to soft sounding for the Rap/Rock of the time, he just never caught on.

Powerbar Ernie is one of the greatest netcee rappers ever. He appeared online around in 2000 on mp3.com posting a swarm of songs. People eventualy figured out it was Copywrite from Eastern Conference records (at that time). The powerbar ernie group was known as Bag Face Five and featured Blair Cosby (Camu Tao) and Blair had his own spin-off cds. Copywrite never admited to being PBE although he used some of the same verses in Copywrite songs that were PBE songs. Also PBE dissed the arsonists and the Weathermen in his songs. Copy and PBE were also featured on the DJ Mondee & Suge White "Where My Dogs At" Complation but they each had seperate tracks on it.

So when i was like 16 or 17 and fucking around on tables and making beats i was looking through my parents records in hopes of finding random shit sample worthy. I Pulled out this record and just stared at it for a minute. It was a promo copy of Steve D "The Destroyer" - No Account MC's with 6 different mixes of the song on it from 1987. Im trying to figure how this gets mixed in the middle of a bunch of psychadellic rock. My mom had no clue where the hell it came from. The plot thickens when i look at the label on the record and it ends up it was recorded and mixed in my town i grew up in (Montclair, NJ). Nobody i have spoken to has really ever heard of this cat. Japan is a weird place. Besides giving the world stupid shit like the Akita, green tea flavored Kit Kat bars, and naked men racing down ski slopes in chairs, they also give us the gift of Japanese music. In the 80s we got the exciting hair metal stylings of Loudness. Some time in the 90s we got that stupid ass band that hung upside down from the ceiling. None of that shit matters though...we now have Satanicpornocultshop.

I don't know what part of Japan this band is from, I don't even know if they're really Japanese. All I know is that they've covered Missy Elliott's "Get Ur Freak On" and MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" and the results are fucking dazzling.

Its by a group called Dark Hearts and every third word in this song is the word SKEET. It is an educational song, informing listners how you can get skeeted on by the group. Ladies, according to Dark Hearts if you walk on your feet you can get skeeted on. Mindless Self Indulgence, i dont really know what to label their music as. Maybe metal, maybe punk, or maybe just gay. But here they cover Method Man's "Bring The Pain" off his Tical album. The MSI cover was actually released on a little known MTV complation cd called "Take A Bite Out Of Rhyme : A Rock Tribute To Rap". It was a dark and stormy night, there I was browsing my local Specs music store looking at all the garbage albums. I go to the hip-hop section and breeze through the various artists area. I saw a weird cover with the Kanye West bear that struck my eye. I read it... The Kanye West Tribute: Indie Translations of the College Dropout. I put the bar code through the preview stations scanner and my ears have never been the same since. Heres the rundown, 11 No name local indie bands cover songs off the College Dropout record. Some of these are pretty funny, hearing the white female singers trying to rap and also trying to find words to replace where the original song says "nigga". What makes this even better is that I looked into this matter more and found out that the record label that released this cd does ALL tribute and cover cd's. Who wouldent want a Piano Tribute to Iron Maiden or a String Quartet Tribute to Fall out Boy?

Through my findings on the intranet i have found an overload of bad "indie rock" cover songs. Cover songs are a great way to get your no name band heard of and shit the lyrics and music are already written for you. Its to easy... no no no that shit is TO EASY. But some fail at it. Which brings me to the next installment to the blog : Nouvelle Vague. I Found this song actually on an indie rock complation that came free in the mail. This track was hidden among actual good songs. I discovered this song when i was in rehab, i was listning to a lot of Lil' Flip and there was an overflow of kids from Texas there. I asked someone for a couple cds to burn on my peice of shit external burner. This is where i found this GEM of music. Its basically a bunch of rappers from Texas screaming thier lungs off freestyling, they get so into it some of thier voices crack from yelling, It also contains some rhymes that dont make and sense and made up words. What more could you want.

So theres floods of actors and athletes and shit even porn stars trying to rap. This is perhaps one of the first examples of an athlete rapping. This track is from the 1992 Classic album "The Power Of Rhyme" by Seattles one and only superstar Kid Sensation. And let me tell you, he is sensational. This track features a young Ken Griffey Jr. rapping with Kid Sensation. It's not your typical celebrity 16 bar appearance either, Kid and Ken go back and fourth on this one. Ken Griffeys rapping is elite on this one, kicking rhymes about how drugs are bad and how good his batting average is. The track also features an audio clip in the begining of Griffeys first at bat in the major leagues. Why cant athletes get funky like this anymore? Eat Your Heart Out Ron Artest.

So, i asume we all havent taken enough drugs to forget D4L's "Hit" Laffy Taffy, a mixture of southern rap and a beat which seemed constructed at a Toys-R-Us kids music section. Anyhow i was crusing this series of tubes we call the internet and came across this "Indie" group on myspace.com (the worlds last source for musicians). Perhaps it was an act of god, but the first song that came up was entitled "True Affection" i listen for a few seconds. Gosh golly, its the Laffy Taffy but with an indie twist and lame lyrics, same keyboard loop notes and snap noise. Lawl. They have another song that starts off covering "The Police - Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"

Bill Larson. A Fine Human Being.

A mighty way to start off this "blog" is with a bang i guess. I want to dedicate this blog to obscure music. Some of it has talent behind it, some not. I found Bill Larson on Myspace.com several months ago. I Honestly didnt know what to think of it. Bill Larson is a rapper, in a genere of his own. He uses emotional rhymes about the harsh realitys of a lower class white man. Getting fired from his third job at a sears, beating his wife, locking his kid in a room for months, and smoking meth and crack. What more could you want out of a song? He has an EP out but hasent posted new material in a while, perhaps he is dead in an alleyway behind a KFC.
